Gilbert graduated from Austin Peay State University in 1977 and earned his Juris Doctor from what is now the University of Memphis School of Law in 1982. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where he has been engaged in the private practice of law for over four decades.
Though his office is in Murfreesboro, Gilbert has represented clients throughout the State of Tennessee. He has tried cases before juries in numerous counties, including Davidson, Shelby, Montgomery, and Hamilton Counties, in both federal and state courts.
Gilbert's extensive trial experience includes personal injury cases involving automobile accidents, healthcare liability, premises liability, and workers' compensation. He has recovered awards for his clients, through settlement and trial, in excess of one million dollars. He also represents small business owners and individuals in business litigation and contract disputes.
In addition to his trial work, Gilbert maintains an active appellate practice. He has successfully argued cases before the Tennessee Court of Appeals, the Tennessee Supreme Court, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
